The St. Vincent de Paul Society of
Saint Adalbert Parish assists needy families within our parish boundaries with
food, clothing, household goods, and other basic needs. We as a parish are
committed, as the followers of Christ, to give of ourselves and to share our
blessings with those in need. It has
been a very busy year for us. We assisted close to 400 families. We often
witnessed hopelessness and despair. We had many unemployed, often from business
closings. Others were unable to work because of sickness or
incapacitation. Some families were
victims of great catastrophes, robbing them of their savings and resources.
Majority of our calls are for food. Mothers tell us of having hungry children
and their cupboards are bare, and no funds on hand.
Can you picture yourself having your gas or electric disconnected because of
delinquent utility bills? Yet, this is happening right in our neighborhoods.
Our work is very fulfilling. We try
to see the face of Jesus in those we serve, and we hope they see Jesus in
us. We
desperately need more volunteers to assist us. Perhaps you are being called to
this ministry. You will be fully trained to carry out this mission. We could not accomplish what we do, without the concern and
generosity of our benefactors. We thank you for all of your help. May God bless you and your loved ones.
Christmas will soon be upon us. We
are now collecting food, toys and gifts for the Christmas Baskets. Due to lack
of manpower we will not be doing baskets on the parish level. They will be
packed and distributed from our store and main office at 3408 Ardmore Trail.
Deposit your Christmas goodies in the large containers by our church doors.
Applications for Christmas Baskets
are now being accepted at our main office through the end of November. This is
for families with low income only. When you apply you must have a picture ID of
yourself. Your driver’s license will be fine. You must have proof of where you
live and bringing in a utility bill can do this. You must have birth
certificates for the children plus a social security number for everyone on the
application.
Christmas Baskets will be delivered
on December 15th and 16th. We need volunteers to make the
deliveries. Can you help?
